There is a second type of scroll of transport that is created when you wish for a "scroll of transport".  It has the same effects as a scroll of pure evil, and can only be identified by trying to sell it (it's worth $12).  Those scrolls are just relabelled scrolls of pure evil in the same way that the "blue stars" are relabelled shurikens.

Scroll

Blessed scrolls cost $250 more, and cursed cost $250 less (down to 1), than the base cost.

Alliance

Cost
Effect Causes creatures immediately next to you to become friendly.
Blessed Causes creatures immediately next to you to fight by your side.
Cursed Angers nearby creatures.
Confused
Notes Powerful monsters are not affected by alliance.

Blessing

Cost $500
Effect Alters the condition of items in the following ways:

  • amulets (except of holding), rings (except agility & protection): removes hexes
  • armor, weapons, rings of agility / protection: removes hexes and raises bonus
  • scrolls, potions: raises quality from cursed to normal and normal to blessed
  • food, wands, other: no effect
Blessed Raises bonuses by 2 points. (Does not cause a cursed item to become blessed.)
Cursed Decreases bonuses and reduces quality of scrolls and potions. Nothing, however, is hexed.
Confused All potions and scrolls in your pack have a 60% chance of being blessed (or cursed, if the scroll of blessing is cursed).
Notes When unidentified, may at first be mistaken for destruction, recharging, identification, or enchantment, if these are not already known, due to the prompt "Empower which item?".

Cartography

Cost $300
Effect Maps your current region.
Blessed Shows the location of all traps on the level.
Cursed Unmaps the region.
Confused Confuses you.
Notes

Destruction

Cost $5
Effect Destroys one item from your pack, as you choose.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Every item you possess is either destroyed or damaged in some way.
Notes When unidentified, may at first be mistaken for blessing, enchantment, recharging, or identification, if these are not already known, due to the prompt "Empower which item?".

Dispel Hex

Cost
Effect Removes hexes from every item in your pack.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Hexes every item in your pack.
Notes

Enchantment

Cost
Effect Affects the main classes of items in the following way:

  • amulets (except of holding): removes hexes
  • armor, weapons, rings of agility / protection: removes hexes and raises bonus 5 to 15 points
  • wands: adds charges: +1 for wishing, +20-35 for all others
  • anvil: changes to platinum anvil
  • blue cube, grey cube: changes to orange cube
  • ocarina: changes to glass ocarina
  • scrolls, potions: raises quality to blessed

All items affected by enchantment are automatically identified. Normal enchantment adds 5-10 to bonuses.

Blessed Adds 10-15 to bonuses.
Cursed Adds 1-5 to bonuses.
Confused
Notes When unidentified, may at first be mistaken for destruction, blessing, recharging, or identification, if these are not already known, due to the prompt "Empower which item?".

Extinction

Cost
Effect Exterminates entire races of beings. Extincting your own race ends your life. If humans are chosen and the reader is not human, all human monsters will be eliminated (berserker, summoner, magician, etc.).
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Either brings a previously exterminated race back to life, or creates an arbitrarily-named monster that will have characteristics drawn from all existing monsters. If no races have been exterminated and the arbitrary monster has been created and another extinction scroll is read, you will perish.
Notes Destroying races always decrements the reader's morality rating, and calls forth a ranger. Names of races can be specified in either singular or plural format (example: gnome or gnomes). Some races cannot be destroyed.

Flame

Cost
Effect Always harms the non-fire resistant reader.
Blessed Raises your maximum hit points, if you aren't fire-resistant.
Cursed Lowers your maximum hit points, if you aren't fire-resistant.
Confused Damages non-fire resistant monsters immediately near you.
Notes

Identification

Cost $100
Effect Makes the nature of any item you choose known to you.
Blessed All items in your pack become identified.
Cursed
Confused Your own identity is lost for all time. You will only be known as "Unknown" for the remainder of your existence.
Notes When unidentified, may at first be mistaken for destruction, enchantment, recharging, or blessing if these are not already known, due to the prompt "Empower which item?".

Knowledge

Cost
Effect Gives you knowledge of some skill or power.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused
Notes Once you have learned the appropriate skill for your character class, the skill or power will be chosen randomly, unless you are wearing the helm of knowledge.

Lava Strike

Cost $585
Effect Summons lava from the heavens in a three square radius around you.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Blue rocks rain down on your head, doing 20-40 HP of damage.
Notes

Pure Evil

Cost
Effect Blinds you for 400-500 turns, decrements your morality, and has one of the following effects:

  • hexes and damages all items in your pack
  • makes 100 traps on the current level
  • sends you to Niflheim
  • surrounds you with migdnarts
  • changes items in your pack to worthless items
  • creates 100 monsters
Blessed Darkens every room on the level.
Cursed Destroys all yours possessions.
Confused Summons denizens.
Notes Pure evil never identifies itself when read, and it addles you too much for you to annotate it. It can accidentally be read over and over until it is identified before it is read.

Recall

Cost
Effect Take yous to the last location where a set recall spell was cast. This spell is learned as a conjurer. If no spell has been cast, you will return to the village.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused
Notes Reading recall is deadly in the bazaar. The bazaar's magic force field acts as a scrambler for the recall magic, teleporting chunks of you throughout the universe.

Recharging

Cost $1000
Effect Adds charges to wands. It can also be used to revitalize a worn-out barbed whip or wooden flute.
Blessed Adds one charge to a wand of wishing.
Cursed
Confused Sucks all the charges out of your wands and drains the submission power from barbed whips.
Notes When unidentified, may at first be mistaken for destruction, blessing, enchantment, or identification, if these are not already known, due to the prompt "Empower which item?".

Summoning

Cost
Effect Summoning calls powerful beings to your aid from another dimension. All five are relatively similar, with each one having their own special characteristics (click the link to get expanded information on each):

  • Rashok: extra hit points
  • Hreset: does large amounts of damage
  • Li-Krin: gets four attacks per turn
  • Elcich: speed = 30
  • Bartan: insane; attacks everything, even you
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Either sends every non-powerful monster away from the current level (93% chance), or summons a grey terror (7% chance).
Notes

Switch Bodies

Cost
Effect Searches a level for the most powerful being and puts you in that being's body while putting the being in your body... with all of your possessions. If the reader is the most powerful being, or there is no being nearby, transfer will not occur.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Switches your body with the weakest being in the area.
Notes

Time Stop

Cost
Effect Halts the flow of time for the entire universe, with the exception of you, for 10-30 turns.
Blessed Halts the flow of time for 100-126 turns.
Cursed Halts you for 10-30 turns, while the rest of the universe continues moving forwards.
Confused Catapults you through time -- around 19000-20000 turns.
Notes Only humans can step outside of time. You gain no effect from this scroll if you're not human.

Time stop is ineffective in the bazaar and Mimer's Well. If read in Mimer's Realm, Niflheim, Jotenheim, Nidavellir, the armory, Asgard, the ocean, on Bifrost, or at the River Gioll, a magic gate will open and any of the following may appear:

  • migdnarts
  • minions
  • timemasters
  • draugars
  • pyrta aths

Transport

Cost $2000
Effect Transport takes you to and from the bazaar below Midgard. You will not be able to leave until either all debts are cleared and unpurchased merchandise dropped, or all the traders are dead.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused
Notes

Only one scroll of transport can be created in a game. They spawn rarely, and can only be written by a level 36 sage.

Trap Generation

Cost $50
Effect Makes traps around you to ensnare attacking hordes of monsters.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Destroys all traps on the current level.
Notes

Traveling

Cost $215
Effect Teleports you elsewhere in the area.
Blessed Allows you to choose your destination.
Cursed
Confused Whisks you to a random location in the universe.
Notes

Twelve Gates

Cost $15
Effect Summons creatures.
Blessed
Cursed
Confused Gold appears around you, accompanied by several wiers. If a scroll of transport has been created, the gold will not appear. If you read twelve gates while confused in the Bazaar, it will create blue wisps.
Notes Only one scroll of transport (above) is created per game. Therefore, reading this scroll while confused can be used to determine if it has already been created and overlooked.

Wonder

Cost $1000 (b)
Effect One of several events occurs:

  • trees surround you ("Tiny seeds burrow into the ground and trees sprout.")
  • turns all ground, floors, and corridors to mud ("The humidity increases.")
  • dries up all potions, mud, quicksand, lava, and water on the current level, including potions in your pack ("Your mouth feels dry.")

  • speeds you up
  • speeds all other creatures up
  • creates an anti-jag ("You have awakened something evil.")
  • brings (some/most) items on the level to life against you ("A strange energy whirls around you.")
  • makes you resistant to one of:
    1. unwanted teleportation ("You picture a strange new dimension.")
    2. death rays ("You feel as though you will live forever.")
    3. acid ("Your skin feels slick.")
    4. petrification ("You feel at one with the earth.")
    5. magical rays and breath ("Your body has a strange sheen to it.")
    6. cold
    7. heat
    8. poison
Blessed Transforms you into a powerful creature, only if the "polymorph" option is chosen.
Cursed Transforms you into a weak creature, only if the "polymorph" option is chosen.
Confused Creates a river through the level.
